Munich-based artists David Bielander and Helen Britton share reflections and insights on their practice as artists in this public talk during the 2019 symposium 'MAKING: A living?'
Produced in collaboration between LWAG, the 2019 Fremantle Biennale and Artsource, 'MAKING: A living?' brought together local, national and international artists, musicians, editors, marketing experts and more to explore ways that artists are adapting digital technologies for new, innovative means in various ways in their practices.
David Bielander is an artist and jeweller. From 2006–2010, he has Artistic Assistant to Professor Daniel Kruger, Academy of Fine Arts Burg Giebichenstein, Halle, Germany; since 2011 he has been an external consultant to the jewellery department, Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam. He has received numerous awards, including the Munich Förderpreis (2009); Herbert Hofmann Prize (2010); the Françoise van den Bosch Prize (2012); and the Swiss Federal Design Prize (2012).
Helen Britton is an artist and jewellery designer. Britton received her MFA from Curtin University in Western Australia, and then studied under Otto Künzli at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich. Her work has been the subject of major retrospectives at Lawrence Wilson Art Gallery (2017) and the Neues Museum in Nuremburg (2013), and is in the permanent collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, National Gallery of Victoria in Melbourne and the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam.
