Rise & Realign: Conversations for the Sensitive Soul

Ep 14 | Breaking the Loop: Reclaiming the Mind as an Ally | Highly Sensitive Series

Listen Later

This is part three of the Highly Sensitive Series. It is called "Breaking the Cycle of Repetitive Thoughts," but the core message is simpler: your mind is your ally, not your enemy.

In this conversation, I speak to the unique experience of the highly sensitive person who processes things deeply, reflects on experiences, and feels a deep emotional response to the collective. I share my own journey of losing my brother and the repetitive thoughts that followed, and how I learned that comparison is not a sin but a presentation of contrast that helps us clarify what truly matters. I also talk about the danger of turning inward and questioning ourselves when others cannot meet us where we are, and why it is essential to trust our own inner guidance.

If you have ever felt that your mind is your enemy, if you are stuck in cycles of rumination or self-judgment, if you feel misunderstood by friends, family, or health professionals, if you are ready to reclaim your mind as a tool for your highest good, this conversation is for you.

What Arose in This Conversation

  • The Mind Is Your Ally: There is a view that the mind is the enemy, but for the highly sensitive person, it is a tool for deep processing. Repetitive thoughts are often a recurring message from the heart about what truly matters, not a defect to be fixed.
  • Comparison Presents Contrast: Comparison is not a sin. It presents us with contrast. It shows us what someone else is experiencing that is different from ours. It is not meant to invalidate our own experiences or judge ourselves, but to help us reflect on what we value as individuals.
  • The Danger of Turning Inward: When we share our thoughts with someone who cannot meet us where we are, we often turn the confusion inward and question if there is something wrong with us. This is a common trap for the highly sensitive person who feels misunderstood.
  • Conscientiousness and Depth of Caring: Highly sensitive individuals tend to be conscientious and considerate of others. They think about others' needs and how to meet them, even if those needs are not asked for. This depth of caring is a gift, but it can lead to burnout if not balanced with self-care.
  • The Interconnectedness of Mind and Body: We cannot talk about the mind without talking about the body. There is no separation. The mind and body are in absolute interconnectedness. What is held in the mind is often held in the fascia and the liquid crystal matrix of the body.
  • The Importance of Pauses: Pauses are not a luxury. They are essential. If we do not pause, connect with our breath, and bring ourselves into the present moment, peace becomes a distant destination. We need these pauses every day.
  • Differential Susceptibility and Environment: If we are raised in a loving, supportive environment, navigating the high sensitivity trait is easier. If we are raised in a painful or unsupported environment, more guidance is needed. But regardless of our start, we are worthy and deserving of all the love and support we need.
  • Honoring Your Unique Journey: No one else has walked the same path as you. No one else was experiencing the same things at the same ages and stages of development. Do not compare your journey to anyone else's.
  • An Invitation to Carry With You

As you listen, or as you reflect afterward, what repetitive thought is trying to tell you something? Is it a message of self-judgment, or is it a message about what you value? What would it feel like to pause, breathe, and ask your mind: What are you trying to show me?
