Ep. 14. Jaime Alberto Rojas Correa — One Colombian Murder

Listen Later

What happens when a parent loses their son to murder…over a soccer game?!? What happens when a country normalizes murder as a way of problem solving? In this week’s podcast episode Don Jaime, my Colombian bespoke jacket-making teacher, tells his story. He lives in the Colombian neighborhood where Pablo Escobar housed his assassins — Manrique, Medellín.
Three years after the height of Escobar’s reign of terror, Don Jaime broke one link in the never-ending chain of revenge violence. He describes how he and his family regained a sense of meaning after having their world destroyed. Find out how he made peace with tragedy.
Talking Points:
The two things Colombia needs most.
The benefits of forgiveness.
What to expect when basic societal needs go unchecked.

The internal attitude you need to avoid revenge.
The importance of providing outlets which support youth.
The indignity of a society without peace or ways to make an honest living.
The magic of leveraging perspective.
The benefits of service.
