In early December, children in Austria don’t just wait for St. Nicholas. They fear what comes with him. If you’ve been bad, you don’t get coal… you get Krampus.

Half man, half goat, and rooted in ancient pagan winter traditions, Krampus has haunted the Alpine region for centuries. Armed with chains, sticks, and a sack for kidnapping naughty children, he became the dark counterpart to St. Nicholas, rewarding the good and punishing the bad.

We explore the legend of Krampus, the chaotic night where adults still dress as the creature and flood the streets, keeping this Christmas nightmare alive.
