Our kids grow up to fast. Case in point: my bonus daughter is coming to the end of her high school athletic career.

When I watch my son Connor play his sports, I am either sitting with my wife or in a spot where I am alone. I do not sit with or near my former spouse. My wife has grown where she can sit not only by her former husband but his wife and his parents. There are some ex's who can sit together at events: I am not one of those.

On this Parenting Tip Tuesday episode, I want to let you know that it is okay to do what feels comfortable, not what the so-called "experts" tell you what you have to do.

I needed to find an email and phone number of one of the parents from the hockey team Connor plays for. As I was looking at the names, it hit me that possibly there are divorced and blended families that I was not aware of. Yes, maybe some of the mom's did not change their last name like my wife.

There are times when I do mom and dad at the games, but there are times when you only see one of them.

Many years ago, I was once interviewed on a podcast, and the host asked if "blended families are the new norm?" My answer then and now is still the same: "yes."
