Ep. #15 | Don't Dwell, Compare Against Yourself

Listen Later

Onto the next - Welcome to Episode #15. This is a docu-series on growth/self-improvement and my experiences for building a valuable life.

Here are my notes for this week – Check me out on Twitter and Instagram for other things going on -  @trevorsean12

Don't Dwell

Nothing good lasts forever, and all terrible things will eventually pass. This week was a good reminder that life can be difficult, no matter what type of systems you have set up in your life. Dwelling can compound one bad day into 2 or 3. We all make mistakes, we all have to deal with difficult situations.

I learned to not make things worse, but deal with what you need to and get back to your system as quickly as you can. Deal with your problems, and move on - no sense in making things worse wondering why something happens. Remember your resources, remember your network, vent it out, deal with your problems, get back to your thing.

Compare Against Yourself

I came across an interview with Michael Jordan about why he's so good. They asked him about his athleticism, his talent, his size, his work ethic. He attributed it to one thing - He competes against himself, he tries to beat how good he was yesterday and that opened up a different level of possibilities.

Watching and learning from all the great success stories in the world, this is the one constant thing that allows someone to transcend to different levels that we've never seen. It's good to have marks to beat and to chase, but the constant journey of competing against yourself unlocks your true potential.

To go back to a Tom Brady quote that he loves and asks his kids: "Is it better to be THE best or YOUR best?"

Quote

To remember where one has been on the open sea is a task for record keepers, not the captain. The captain only cared about charting the path ahead, not the sea long past.
