In episode 15 we bringing the heat with discussion of mechanical and performance royalties. This topic is an important topic because this is, as artists, how we get paid. Registering your music with a performance rights organization, such as BMI (https://www.bmi.com), and a music publishing administration, such as SongTrust (https://www.songtrust.com) will ensure you receive payment for your musical works.

We also discuss the topics of social media do's and don'ts. Often times we see artist using automation incorrectly and "sliding" into someone's DM with a generic comment or click bait to get target person to listen to their music. We discuss the importance of building a TRUE relationship with your fan base by putting in the effort and interacting with the community.

Spotify is inventing an Artificial Intelligence technology that will ensure artist are not committing songwriter plagiarism. This is interesting because we do see the benefits of this as it will keep artists and labels out of the "hot seat", but the next question arises, who is funding it? Will this be a pay for service type or are the rates of subscription increase? We'll have to see. Awesome on Spotify to see them pioneering this new chapter in music!
