Sometimes in business, the stars align, and a good idea is born at just the right time to take advantage of the current environment. That's how I like to think of Philter Brewing. They have been called an overnight success, but I don't think that is fair to the work done behind the scenes to ensure a successful launch...a bit like an iceberg with the majority of its mass sitting below the surface, unseen.
Philter absolutely burst onto the scene in 2017, but it was no overnight success. It was a plan hatched by two mates over countless beers. They shared love of beer and had a multitude of marketing expertise between them, but they needed a brewer to complete their craft beer puzzle. Once they found her, they were ready to jump in the deep end for the love of beer.
I invited my old workmate, Stef, onto the podcast to talk about the pro's and con's of contract brewing, how his experience in big beer has really helped him navigate the ultra competitive Aussie beer market, and how it all started in a small Hobart brewery.
Enjoy!
