Gabriel and Heather welcome back guest Carly Villarreal. Carly is the Social Work Clinical Team Lead for the Emergency Department at Carilion in Roanoke, VA and she is the Co-Chair of the High Utilizer Board. In this episode, Carly shares how the role of social workers in the ED has changed and what that role current encompasses. Carly also shares the grassroots effort to help those high utilizers of the ED, many of which have a mental health disorder and/or who struggle with homelessness. Carly shares how the curiosity of how to help one specific patient morphed into a community wide effort to more effectively support this population.
