This week Holly and Kristina are joined by R.G. Shore, author of the award-winning book "The Ocean Inside Me: A Spiritual Memoir on Healing Racial Trauma." Being born in the East but raised in the West was the beginning of R.G.'s relationship to liminal spaces. This idea of not fitting into any one space can be a lonely and isolating place; but the gift of liminal space is that there is more room to discover that you are never just one thing. Moving beyond labels is a painful process of discovering who you are not in order to discover who you are. Allowing these ego deaths is a part of the journey to rising again. While incarcerated, R.G. leaned into meditation as a way to connect with his inner child and heal his own wounds. In meeting himself more fully, he was able to apply that inner work to those around him in prison. His stories of humanizing himself and others are powerful examples of how changes on the macro level often start at the micro level within each of us. R.G. Shore is also the founder of Northwest Wisdom, a non profit in the Pacific Northwest for embodied spirituality.
