EP 16:Voices of Change: 3 Things Students Need

Listen Later

Ever wonder how the struggles and victories of the past have paved the way for black liberation today? Strap in as we journey through the origins and significance of Black August, a powerful period that has left an indelible mark on the history of black activism. Born out of the 1970s at San Quentin State Prison, we'll recount the major August events that have shaped the fight for black liberation.

But the story doesn't end with history, we'll also walk through my own personal journey as a student activist. From humble beginnings, guided by my mother's dream of higher education, to the call for action in the wake of a hate crime at the University of California Santa Cruz. Discover how, creating safe communities for students of color and advocating for changes like Black housing and shared governance, we can turn the tide on campus.

Finally, we'll share the importance of building community relationships and seeking independent funding for student activism. Prepare to be inspired, be ready to be challenged, and join us in this transformative conversation about the relentless fight for change.
