Today I'm talking with my good friend and longtime colleague Tracey Biebel. Tracey and I met when we were baby therapists working at a community mental health center. She was my first supervisor, in fact, and has remained a trusted mentor and friend in both work and life since then. Tracey has a private therapy practice in Portland, OR where she sees individuals and couples.Β When she is not at work she can be found spending time with her 2 teens, lifting heavy things at the gym, dabbling in oil painting, finding ways to play at improv comedy, having real convos with friends, wrangling her mid-sized dog, or simply puttering quietly in her house (a fav activity).Β
Today we are talking about helping when you're hurting - what it's like to be in the role of therapist or coach when your own life is falling apart. I wanted to ask her how she navigates the role of helper when she's needing help herself. Because even after all these years, I still don't think I do it very well, yet.
I'd love to hear how you balance the role of helper when you also need help, especially if you're in a job that expects you to have it all together.
