Herrington identifies as an artist with a disability having lost complete hearing in her left ear in 2022. She suffers from single-sided-deafness and constant tinnitus. She uses this challenge and life change to connect with other creatives and advocate for accessible art.

She co-authored a book, "You and Me"  with her husband in  2021 and the couple launched their own podcast, "Mike and Kristen" in follow up.
