Vince and Rob discuss the influence of English, American, and Australian drummers on pub rock in Australia. They highlight the impact of bands like the Purple Hearts, the Pink Finks, and Buster Brown, noting the American rhythm and blues influences. They also discuss the evolution of drumming styles from the 1960s to the 1970s, emphasizing the shift from intricate to more laid-back and aggressive styles. Additionally, they touch on the challenges faced by local music manufacturers, such as the late Roland Jehan from Ozbeat Drumsticks. They discuss the launch of Laneway Red, a platform aimed at supporting Australian artists and addressing the disparities in music streaming.
Vincent and Rob decided to chat away one day about the music business in their territory and from that discussion came the idea to create a podcast about our knowledge base. Vincent from the business side of things and Rob from the education side. Vincent has a 35 year history in entertainment, and Rob has just completed his Phd in Music at the University of Adelaide.
Those backgrounds will bring about some real differences in what they interpret the music business is and how it operates. Join the guys for an hour of insights into the business.
