Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn, one of the world’s most known and relevant visual artists, isback after a 300-year-long hiatus to show the world the definite proof that size doesn’t matter.On the 28th of July 2020, Sotheby’s London hosted an auction where one of the three self-portraitsof the Dutch painter. Despite its small proportions (29.9 x 24.9 cm), it was sold for 14.6 millionpounds! It would’ve been the highest grossing lot of the auction had it not been for Joan Miró’sPeinture (Femme Au Chapeau Rouge) (1927), which was sold for 22.3 million pounds. So howcome one of the most prolific artists of the 20 th century sold for more than such a rarity as aRembrandt self-portrait in private hands?
