He is a practicing hospitalist, health policy researcher, and health policy analyst, working as a consultant to the FTC Bureau of Consumer Protection on health insurance. He is also a member of the Medicare Evidence Development & Coverage Advisory Committee, the UNC-NC State Biomedical Engineering Department Industrial Advisory Board, and the Keck Graduate Institute School of Medicine Dean's Advisory Council.
