Canonical URLs let search engines know which version of the web pages on your website should be treated as the authoritative ones. Essentially this helps with avoiding duplicate content issues and consolidating link signals.

A simple solution could be the application of Noindex Tags to pages you don't want to be indexed, however, issues with duplicate content vary and should be handled differently.
