Dr. Peter Valenzuela is a family medicine specialist currently based in California where he is Chief Medical Officer for Mercy Medical Group. He attended medical school at UT Southwestern in Dallas and completed his family medicine residency at John Peter Smith Hospital. Dr. Valenzuela spent four years as Assistant Dean for Clinical Affairs and Chair of the Department of Family and Community Medicine at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center. He enjoys hiking, reading, and wine tasting in addition to cartooning. Dr. Valenzuela is the creator of Doc-Related, a webcomic that follows the experiences of physicians, staff, and administrators working within a large health system. He takes a satirical view of the challenges of practicing ambulatory medicine today, with topics including patient satisfaction, provider satisfaction and performance, quality, and compliance.
