Ep. 19 - Love for the Underdog

Listen Later

Board Game Geek, colloquially known as "BGG", has become the board gamer's encyclopedia in many respects. The merit of its famous 10-point rating scale is contentious (to say the least) but, nonetheless, influential when it comes to purchasing a new game. Today, we will talk about board games that have a "low" rating (7.0 or below) on BGG that we still love!

We'll also cover recently played games including Metrorunner, Let's Go to Japan, Yokohama, and Cabanga!.

Name the game that this modular option comes from:

        1. To play the extended game, simply add all cards marked with a red and white icon (upward pointing arrow) on the cards’ lower left border at the start of setup, including two new (REDACTED)s.
        2. During the game, whenever you move a Camp onto a hex with an unrevealed (REDACTED) token on it, flip the token over.  Whenever you place a Village that touches a hex with a revealed (REDACTED) token, immediately gain the benefits shown on the token.
        3. This box contains two versions of (REDACTED), the Republic and the Imperium version.  Do not mix cards from both versions, but instead use either one or the other.
        4. Do you want to play the campaign?  Place story card 01 onto the corresponding space on the game board.  Read the card and follow its instructions: Place story tile 1 next to the indicated location.  Draw quest tiles from the pile and place them face-up next to the indicated locations.
        5. The experience of the game can be customized and enhanced through the purchase of regularly released expansions.  Expansions may introduce new (REDACTED)s, additional scenarios or campaigns, and new player cards that add variety and depth to (REDACTED) decks.
