Ep 19: Working Through Shame to Discover Who You Are with Kira Yakubov, LMFT

Listen Later

We're talking with Kira Yakubov, LMFT, and one of our returning Support Group Leaders from November 2019's support group + workshop in Philadelphia, "Coping with Recurring Stress & Tackling Pressures Head On."
Kira is an Individual, Couples, and Sex Therapist helping others struggling with anxiety, self-worth, relational distress, and cross cultural challenges gain powerful insight to living an authentic life.  In this episode, we focus on understanding SHAME and working to get past shame and confusion of being something or doing something you're not.  At a young age, Kira and her family came to America as refugees from the Soviet Union, a dangerous time during its fall.  For her, strong feelings of shame began as a child being raised in a culture oppressive towards women's roles and sexuality, and for herself, feeling that something was wrong with her for wanting to rebel against the gender-stereotype.  In a culture where mental health may not be understood well, through her work, Kira now helps others heal with self-acceptance and support in understanding feelings of being misunderstood.

In this episode, you'll hear from Kira on...
-Shame and How it Can Develop Into Other Mental Health Concerns
-Guilt vs. Shame
-Her Self-Discovery Journey in Recognizing Her Value to Recognize Your Worth Past One Identity
-Relationship Dynamics (Toxic vs. Healthy) & Vocalizing Boundaries
-Establishing your Self-Empowerment When Others Don't Agree or Support You
...and so much more.

*Kira also explores the Therapy Process with an inside perspective on therapy sessions focused on relationships.  Visit kirayakubov.com to schedule a Free Intro Call, schedule a session, and learn more about Kira's offerings.
