Ep. 2 - First marathon mistakes - what not to do!

This episode is all about my first marathon experience. It was a painful one! 

 

Back in 2014 I took on the Timberline Marathon in beautiful Oregon. 

 

Here are the key takeaways from that first marathon: 

 

  1. Train appropriately for the type of race you will be doing
  2. Recover well: foam roll, stretch and sleep
  3. Eat right and prioritise a healthy diet
  4. If you get injured, back off: see a professional, back off and rehab. Downgrade to a shorter race if needed. 
  5. Connect with other runners for support and guidance. 
  6. Include variety in your training program.
  7. Practice your race nutrition strategy in training runs. 
  8. Include running specific strength training.
