Ep. 2 Food Security and MASIPAG's 6-Point Agenda

Listen Later

COVID-19 has put the world on hold, drastically affecting world economies including the the way our food production is set-up. The dominant paradigm of the industrial food chain is in state of disarray as movement restrictions and local lockdowns affected the free flow of agricultural inputs, especially petrochemicals to farming areas.

No less than the The United Nations World Food Programme has raised the alarm; more than a quarter of a billion people face the threat of starvation this year as a result of the multiple impacts of COVID-19, civil wars, crop failure and climate change.

One this is clear, there needs to be a stopgap. Urban areas need to produce their own food to ease the burden on farming communities, while farmers on the other hand can relatively focus on domestic food security as they market their surplus produce.

This episode, Juan organiko will discuss food security in the present circumstances and the impediments to its strategic application in the Philippine context.
