Ep 2 | Prayer Meeting: What is the Point?

Listen Later

What if the most important thing our church does is the thing no one sees?

In this episode of Upon Further Review, our associate Pastor, Cody Kitchen, and Pastor, Dr. John Hall, take us back to the foundation: prayer. Not as a sentimental add-on. Not as a programmatic checkbox. But as the engine that drives everything. Prayer is often compared to “eating your vegetables”: necessary, good for you, but not always exciting. And yet, Scripture makes clear that not much of eternal value happens apart from it.

This conversation confronts a hard reality: the enemy would prefer believers do almost anything other than pray. When trials come, when schedules fill up, when ministry demands increase, prayer is often the first thing to be quietly reduced. But God has chosen to work through the prayers of His people. A church without prayer is not neutral. It is functionally dependent on itself.

The episode also gives clarity on the intentional structure of Field Street Baptist Church’s Wednesday corporate prayer gathering and why it reflects the biblical pattern we see in Acts 2:42. This is not an afterthought. It is central.
