EP 2: Southeast Asian Perspectives on Artificial Intelligence in the Service of the People

Listen Later

How is the Artificial Intelligence race going in developing countries in Southeast Asia? Are governments on track to using and developing AI and emerging technology for state functions like delivery of services? What are the security concerns alongside these developments? How does the government ensure transparency and accountability to ensure citizens' rights and freedoms are not infringed upon? Is there gender inclusivity and representation in developing these AI systems?

In this episode, host Pauleen Gorospe Savage chats with Mitzi Austero and Yudi Adiputera about the state of AI in developing nations in the SEA region. They touch on topics like the priorities of the public sectors in AI development, concerns in privacy and safety when AI is used as a tool for surveillance or weaponry, and class and gender inclusivity in the development of AI systems.

Mitzi is the Programmes Manager of Nonviolence International Southeast Asia, and Yudi is a Professor at the Department of International Relations, Universitas Gadjah Mada.
