Protests have spawned across Houston ISD in recent months in response to the state takeover by the Texas Education Agency. With the appointing of Superintendent Mike Miles and the Board of Managers back in June of 2023, They have replaced elected officials that were voted in by the members of the HISD community. Now, the takeover has seemingly taken away the community’s right to vote on district related matters. Teachers, parents, and students are all voicing their opposition to the changes made by Miles’ New Education System, a reform plan to fix the issues faced within the district .
