• September 5, 1982 Mark Coulthurst along with his family and deckhands arrived in the rowdy fishing town of Craig, Alaska having originally come from Blaine, Washington. It was near the final days of the commercial fishing season for that year. 
• Mark was said to be ambitious, hard-working and well liked Skipper. “Everyone of his crew wanted to be like Mark, he was one of the best skippers around.” Said one of the deckhands brothers. It was also said that he was a “rising star”. “He could be really tough, really aggressive.” But as any growing business owner knows… you kind of have to be. 
• Mark had just become the proud owner of one of the most expensive ($850,000), high-tech commercial fishing boats of it’s kind in the region at that time.
