Ep: 20 Built Upon the Solid Rock

Listen Later

LUKE 6:46-49
“Why do you call me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do what I tell you (Jesus’ Commands & Teachings)?Everyone who comes to me and hears my words and does them, I will show you what he is like: he is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. And when a flood arose, the stream broke against that house and could not shake it, because it had been well built. But the one who hears and does not do them is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. When the stream broke against it, immediately it fell, and the ruin of that house was great.”
Matthew 7:7-8
“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.
Jesus will always help us and comfort us during the good and bad moments of our lives. He will help you find the answers you are seeking.
FLOODS  = Trials
1 Peter 1:7
“These trials will show that your faith is genuine. It is being tested as fire tests and purifies gold—though your faith is far more precious than mere gold. So when your faith remains strong through many trials, it will bring you much praise and glory and honor on the day when Jesus Christ is revealed to the whole world.”
A life lived with Jesus is a life well built!
JESUS IS THE ROCK: 1 Corinthians 3:10-11
"According to the grace of God given to me, like a skilled master builder I laid a foundation, and someone else is building upon it. Let each one take care how he builds upon it. For no one can lay a foundation other than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ."
In Matthew 7:24-27 we hear the same teaching only said a bit differently:
“Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it.”

Proverbs 9:6 “Forsake the foolish, and live; and go in the way of understanding.”
Those who call Upon Jesus
We want to be those people who call upon the Lord and hear his commands. We need to build our life upon the foundation of Jesus.
Romans 10:9-10
If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.
Once we are saved through the shed blood of Jesus Christ we receive the Holy Spirit as our helper.
Ephesians 1:13-14
In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in Jesus, you were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, who is the guarantee of our inheritance until we acquire possession of it, to the praise of his glory.
Does your life reflect the living will of God?
Is your life a testimony of your faith and relationship with Jesus Christ?
Our Foundation in Jesus yields the Fruits of the Spirit found in Galations 5:22-23

In our original scripture of Luke 6 we read “You call me Lord, Lord” What is Jesus saying when he says, “You call me Lord, Lord”? We find an answer in Matthew 7:21-23
“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophes
