Boarding school or staying in hostel is very common for those Nepalese who did some of their schooling in Nepal.

Some stay their whole school life whereas some go in for the last year which is usually compulsory. 

A time where we are learning about the world around us and are vulnerable in so many ways, most of our childhood (especially those who stay in for a long time) is spent under supervision of wardens or guardians that are responsible for hundreds of children at a time.
