What a crazy road he’s had working alongside some of the biggest and brightest in the biz

In this meandering conversation between Jamie Lidell and Mark Ronson, they dive into the egoless life of the producer, learning through and from others, what to take to a writing / recording session, the use of technology in the studio (particular the laptop), the way the industry is trying to figure things out, copyright and creativity, the joy of music (and the piano), and life in Los Angeles.
Some things that really stood out to me were Ronson’s point about being kind:
Be careful who you are a dick with when you are on your way up because you will bump into them on your way down.
How big Mark Ronson’s ‘bag’ is when he turns up:
I’d love to think that I could just sit at the piano and pull melodies and chords from god, but also know I’m not Stevie Wonder, John Lennon or Elton John

I need a Juno synth, some kind of Moog, an MPC and a Nord Electro, that’s my kind of bar minimum to get things going.
The place of Spotify and playlists (circa 2018) in regards t success. He released King Princess’ track ‘1950’ and it got picked up, having 12 million in three weeks. Ronson wonders if Spotify playlists are replacing the radio? After reading Liz Pelly’s book, Mood Machine I wonder what is lost with the death of the radio?
