Ep. 22: Covid-19: EDANA

Listen Later

The demand for nonwovens has soared over the last few months, as these materials are vital for producing face masks and other personal protective equipment (PPE). In this last podcast on Covid-19, Seán Kerrigan, director for communications and media relations at EDANA, talks about this increase in demand and how the virus has raised the profile for the importance of nonwoven applications.

Elsewhere, he discusses the ability of the industry to meet demand. For example, Europe cannot currently produce enough nonwovens; the continent is reliant on areas such as Asia. But in the future, it looks like there will be more of a shift to self-sufficiency and local production. In fact, in Europe alone the production of meltblown fibres is expected to triple in the near term, says Kerrigan.

Additionally, Kerrigan explains how the industry is expecting to witness new players, challenges surrounding sustainability, and EDANA’s announcement to move its Outlook event online.

EDANA, or otherwise known as the European Disposables and Nonwovens Association, exists to promote the sustainable development of the industry for a community of over 260 companies worldwide. The organisation also advocates the benefits of nonwovens for society and is responsible for events including Outlook and INDEX.
