My interview this week is for any mom who has been thrown a "curveball", as they say. Julie Long never pictured being the mom of a child born with blindness. Hence, her son, Tanner, has taught her more in the past decade of his life than she could have ever imagined. Then, one day a few years ago, she got a call that opened a door to him having a guest appearance on NBC's This Is Us, my favorite show...
Julie says, "I was born and raised in Northern California on the peninsula in the Bay Area. I grew up a tomboy always wanting to play sports with the boys, instead of dance classes with the girls in my class. After graduating high school, I went to SDSU (San Diego State University). After 3.5 years, I began to miss Northern California so I transferred to SJSU to finish my bachelors degree in Psychology, with my minor in Business. After graduating college, I went backpacking with 2 of my closest friends across Europe for 3 months. Best experience of my life. Once back home, I began working in high tech software for various companies such as: TIDAL Software, Cisco, EMC, Brocade and a few others. In 2008 I got pregnant and married. 2009 I had my son Tanner. When Tanner was 6 mos. we found out that he was completely blind in both eyes. This is where my journey as a mom gets interesting... "
