EP 24: James Hawkins, Ph.D on Racial Reconciliation

Listen Later

"I hear so many political pundits and talking heads now and when they talk about reconciliation or why there's is disproportionate levels of income and crime rates and all of these things now and they'll point to things such as 'well it's because of single motherhood' or 'lack of fathers in african america or minority communities'... okay that's fine, but that didn't just happen overnight. There's a reasons. I never hear anyone talk about reason and there's a reason."

"Some people may think I'm only doing this, Jordan, for minorities, but that's not true. I believe we're all trapped by this trauma."

James Hawkins: soldier, healer, pastor, prophet. James and I first got connected when I found out about his work with racial reconciliation in christian communities. As someone with my own troubled relationship with the church and a deep investment in racial healing I was enthralled. Since then I've had the opportunity to attend one of his trainings. Wow. His approach is direct and kind, confronting and compassionate. If you're looking for a diversity trainer he should be on your short list. And on your short list he should be at the top.

In this episode we talk about:

  • The parallels between racial reconciliation and marital affairs.
  • Why he's specializes in working with christians and reconciliation.
  • The need for prophetic lament.
  • Why christians can't ignore racial divisions and be congruent with the message of the bible.
