Did you know :
* Nearly 50 percent of people with an eating disorder are also abusing drugs and/or alcohol
* Research suggests that 25 percent of people entering treatment for an eating disorder also meet the criteria for substance abuse problems
* Substance abuse by people with eating disorders occurs at a rate five times greater than what is found in the general population.
While I fully back Alcoholics Anonymous, I have a very different opinion on 12 step meetings for food.
In this episode, I look at the differences between being in recovery from alcohol or drugs and how it differs from that of food.
I also discuss why the 12 step programs tend to fail most people when trying to stop binge eating and often exacerbate their food issues.
If you are sober I think you will get a lot from this episode because I know for me personally, for years I felt crazy because I was able to get sober relatively easy but the food thing was an entirely different beast.
Even if you aren't sober, this episode is sure to open your eyes to some new perspectives and thoughts around food and why previous diets have not worked for you.
