On August 1, 1999, two 17-year-old best friends - Tracie Hawlett and J.B. Beasley - went out to meet some friends. It was J.B.’s birthday and there was a party planned outside of the city of Dothan, Alabama. The girls got lost on their way and called home from a pay phone to check in with Tracie’s parents. That was the last time their families heard from them.
