This segment of “Building Knowledge With The Building and Realty Institute (BRI)” featured a discussion on the May 15th, 2024 request of The Building and Realty Institute (BRI) to have the U.S. Supreme Court review its lawsuit against the 2019 enactment of The Housing Stability and Tenant Protection Act (HSTPA) in New York State. Our guest was Dorothy Finger, an attorney with Finger and Finger, A Professional Corporation. Finger and Finger, which serves as Chief Counsel to The Building and Realty Institute (BRI), is handling the legal processes of the BRI regarding its request to the U.S. Supreme Court. The following items were discussed: 1) A review of The Housing Stability and Tenant Protection Act (HSTPA) and why members of the building and realty sectors in New York State are so opposed to its 2019 enactment; 2) An explanation on how the 2019 enactment of The Housing Stability and Tenant Protection Act (HSTPA) has been a major negative for Owners and Managers of multi-family buildings and complexes in New York State whose properties are affected by rent stabilization; 3) A review of how the enactment of The Housing Stability and Tenant Protection Act (HSTPA) in 2019 has also hurt businesses who serve Owners and Managers of muti-family buildings and complexes in New York State, specifically contractors, building materials companies and service companies; 4) The main points that the BRI is making in its request to the U.S. Supreme Court; 5) Dorothy Finger’s opinions on the strongest points of the BRI’s lawsuit against The Housing Stability and Tenant Protection Act (HSTPA); 6) The feelings of Dorothy Finger, and the feelings of Finger and Finger, A Professional Corporation, regarding the BRI having success in its request to the U.S. Supreme Court.
