I used to be very proud of how I neglected myself. In hindsight, it’s a bit embarrassing, and neglect sounds like a huge word to describe what I was doing. I wasn’t trying to neglect myself; I was busy taking care of everyone else! There was laundry to do, kids to raise, and dinner to be made. But in the end, I did take a lot of pride in not taking care of myself.
I spent so much time taking care of everyone else that I wasn’t taking care of myself. I didn’t notice that I felt disconnected from my body or my own needs. I wasn’t connected to my hobbies because I felt it was too indulgent to use that time for myself, since I could be using that time to care for my family. And then something changed that put everything into a new perspective.
In this week’s episode, we’re talking about how I tried something I never thought I would. One thing gave me back my own time, and the realization that the world wouldn’t end if I indulged in it for a few hours a week. My family wasn’t falling apart, the chores still got done, and I felt better than I ever had before. So many women have the same story as mine, and in this episode, I’m going to share the lesson I learned when I finally let myself carve out some me time.
