Baseball is a game for the young and the young at heart. As the great Dodger catcher, Roy Campanella, once said:
“You’ve got to be a man to play baseball for a living, but you’ve got to have a lot of little boy in you, too.”
Today, we are joined by high school baseball coach, Jake Haney, to discuss the tension between old school and new school that exists in the game of baseball and to hear his perspective on how the game has evolved.
Coach Haney has been a high school baseball coach for over 20 years and was actually your host, Josh Lewis’ head coach in his senior year of high school!
Join us for a great discussion about Coach Haney’s years of experience with younger players and how he believes we can make the game more exciting for the kids without watering it down for the traditionalists.
We touch on where Coach Haney lands on the tradition versus evolution scale, how baseball players have changed since previous generations, and his thoughts on the Little League World Series that wrapped up in August 2022.
For a bit of fun, we also ask Coach Haney how different the game would look if a high school coach were commissioner for a day.
