John Yates Bio:
Born Melbourne 1951 parents non-Christian very working class e.g. uneducated, prejudiced etc. Grew up mainly in Adelaide. Diverse educational history inn high school, from near top of class to failure of matriculation year. Bad attitudes.
University aspirations, degree for high earning income, became progressively depressed and paranoid. Led to reading Bible, conversion, Pentecostal experience and church. Met wife Donna through Christian fellowship at uni. 4 years high school teacher, science/biology/maths
Went to Melbourne to do theology degree (Ridley College), surprisingly ended up in Anglican Church. Served in country Victorian parishes, beginning of long sequence of rejections by church leadership. Went to Brisbane to do Ph D in philosophical theology. Call to prophetic ministry of Word.
Called to Perth to work with uni students in Perth. Great growth in church, friction with senior leader, church “split”, church plant, church “riot”, house church network, part of variety of denominations (e.g. Churches of Christ, Lutheran), continuing disharmonies in congregations. Long journey of inner healing. Commitment to church unity/prayer, Evangelical Alliance etc. Theology lecturing in WA, mainly Tabor College. Increasing interest in the person of Jesus/Christology.
Recall to Anglican Church, Bassendean, works principally with men, ministry to Myanmar, divides time between mentoring/spiritual direction and writing for his own list and website. He has been involved in establishing several marketplace networks in WA for Christian professionals as part of a commitment to the discipling of the nation.
