Key Points
1. How do you define self-care?
I define self care as daily activities you do to take care of your physical and mental health.
2. How does owning a business affect your methods of self-care?
As a business owner it's important to take the time out of my busy schedule to practice self care. It's easy to get busy and neglect certain things. On the flip side, I also have to make sure I don't beat myself up if I have a busy day or week and don't get to do all things I normally do like workout or stay on track with sleep.
3. What are some self care routines do you practice?
Some self care routines I practice include exercise, food prep so I stay on track and have things handy to grab for meals and snacks, bedtime routine, setting daily/weekly habit goals, keeping in touch with family/friends either through text/call/facetime, journaling, reading, spending time outdoors, and listening to podcasts.
4. As a fellow business owner, why do you think self-care is important to you?
As I get older and also realize what's important in my life I know that taking care of myself routinely will lead to a healthier lifestyle and enable me to be my best self when working on my business and going to my appointments with clients. Balance is very important to me. You know the saying work hard, play hard. If I can be my best and work hard when I need to, then I will also have time and energy to do the things that I enjoy.
5. What do you recommend from a non-biased point of view for new business owners to invest into when practicing self-care?
I would recommend choosing one thing to focus on. Some examples: If you want to exercise, invest in a gym membership or a trainer. If you want to educate yourself on a certain topic about business or entrepreneurship, buy some books or subscribe to a podcast or Patreon. If you want to eat better, try some new foods or sign up for a food delivery subscription. Some things I've invested in have been online workshops and books about business topics I want to learn more about.
