In Eorzea, Monks originated in Ala Mhigo where they honed their arts as a form of worship. When their order, the Fist of Rhalgr, was scattered it may have spelled the end for this discipline entirely except for a few surviving practitioners. Our Pugilist Warrior of Light stumbles across one of these disciples; he lures us in with the promise of martial mastery but we end up ensnared in his machinations.
