Breaking the Barrier

Ep. 34: Dealing With The Loss Of A Loved One

Listen Later

In this #episode, I speak about the #process I have learned over the years about dealing with the loss of loved ones. It's never easy but it can be something that is a bit more structured and controllable. Here are some of the things I talk about on this episode.
1. Everyone deals with loss in a different way
Not everyone will grieve in the same way. It's ok to let people grieve in their way, even though it might seem odd to you. Don't stress about something that you have no control over... Deal with YOUR process.
2. Open up and talk when you are ready
You don't have to feel like you need to talk right away. Maybe you need space, and that's OK. Talk when you are ready and don't rush things.
3. Allow yourself to be vulnerable
Be ok with acknowledging your feelings, whatever they may be. No one is going to judge you for not being as strong as you want to be. You don't have to be strong during this time. Sometimes it's ok to feel vulnerable.
4. Be ok being a bit screwed up for a bit
You may hit rock bottom at points. It's normal. You will get back up as long as you process your emotions. Don't fight the emotions... Let them in and accept them.
5. LIFE GOES ON
There is now going to be a new normal. The new normal will be life without your loved one. Take in the lessons that they have given to you, good or bad, and live your life... Keep those loved ones in your heart but, remember, you must live life.
Grieving Process
The grieving process is a normal part of losing someone. You will go through these emotions at some point. Do not try to fight them. They are normal and they will help you move forward.
1. Denial
2. Anger
3. Depression
4. Bargaining
5. Acceptance
