What the Forensics

Ep. 35 - Patricia Allen & Stalking pt. 1

Listen Later

Stalking has always been a crime...right? In the first episode of our two-part stalking special, we discuss a stalking case study and the legal history of stalking.
Journey delves into the lesser known case of Ottawa-resident Patricia Allen, whose devastating case influenced Canadian laws surrounding stalking and cross-bow carry. Rebecca follows this by discussing the much-needed laws surrounding stalking, which came into effect much later than you may expect!
The topic of domestic violence is prevalent in this episode. If you or anyone you know is experiencing domestic violence, there are resources available to you to find you the help and assistance you may be seeking. While this is not an exhaustive list, below are some resources to keep in mind:

  • For the US: call 1-800-799-SAFE (7233) or text “START” to 88788. There is also information available at https://www.thehotline.org/
  • For Canadian residents, it’s advised to call 9-1-1
    • But, https://www.dawncanada.net/issues/crisis-hotlines/ has several provincial based numbers as well
  • If you aren't in a position to contact these lines, our inbox is always open and we can discreetly help in any way that we can
