Today on the podcast we welcome Dr. Daniel Bennett, lead teaching pastor at Bethany Community Church in Washington, IL. You’re going to want a notebook for this conversation, we had so many good takeaways!
You’ll hear us talk about:
Where do we examples of relational brokenness showing up in the Bible?
“The story of Scripture is the story of God repairing the relationship with man and woman.”
How would you encourage us to respond to difficult people who do not profess faith in Christ?
It’s important for us to recognize we don’t always know whether someone has understood the gospel or not
“We should always want what’s best for the glory of God and the gospel in these relationships.”
Scripture often tells us to do what’s counterintuitive and draw closer to the difficult people in our lives.
How do I respond to difficult people who DO profess faith in Christ?
“The closer I am to someone relationally, the higher my obligation to deal with whatever is going on that is causing relational tension.”
What is with the phrase “toxic relationships” in our culture and how do we hold this idea up to Scripture?
We need to begin by categorizing the issues rightly
“If you’re tempted to push a person away relationally, you need to understand what the offense is and categorize it biblically.”
Can you leave us with a picture of what we have to look forward to when it comes to relationships in the new heaven and earth?
“God is working within us in the context of relationships. What God is doing through the person who is driving you crazy is perhaps preparing you for eternity.”
