This week, I will be discussing the case of Islan Nettles (I’ve heard her name pronounced ee-lan and islan, but I believe that the correct way is ee-lan) a black trans woman from Harlem who was beaten to death after her assailant “discovered” that she was trans. I say “discovered” in quotes and sarcastically because, it wasn’t a secret. I will also be covering the gay/trans panic defense as well.
