A Millennial Musician

Ep. 36 Marcia McCants

Listen Later

Percussionist and organizer Marcia McCants shares her story of growing up in the DMV-area and falling in love first with the snare drum and later with the marimba. After nearly 2 decades of performing, learning, and teaching music that she rarely saw herself represented in, she decided to change that, herself. Marcia has started the Percussion Consortium Project to raise money for BIPOC composer to create new works so that more percussions and musicians like Marcia can be seen and heard in the style of music they perform, learn and teach. In addition, we talk about overcoming injuries, the challenges of studying classical music during 2020 and the Covid era, as well as the exciting projects she has coming up this year. Go follow Marcia on all platforms and donate to her fundraiser today. You can learn more at the links below.
