Ep. 39: Growing a Balanced Landscape Biz

Listen Later

Growing a successful landscape design/build and maintenance business is incredibly difficult. Not only do we have the traditional headaches of employees and customers, managing payroll and insurance, as well as marketing and advertising. We also have to deal with the weather, language barriers, trucks, equipment, and enough governmental regulations to make you want to scream.

Rich Goldstein, Owner and President of Green Meadows Landscape Contractors, gives us:
-A step-by-step approach to growing your business
-Design/Build vs. Maintenance
-Commercial vs. Residential
-Best management practices (BMP's)
-Job descriptions and responsibilities
-The importance of a good estimating system
-Top quality customer service
-How to attract good people

Goldstein founded Green Meadows in 1982. His goal was to provide personalized service, high quality maintenance and skilled construction: characteristics that he felt were lacking in the business of landscape contracting.

His commitment to customer service and his understanding of its importance is the reason why his book of business continues to expand and why his clients remain with him year after year. Goldstein has more than 30 years of experience in all phases of landscape construction and lawn maintenance; is also a licensed pesticide applicator, Landscape Industry Certified Technician and an ICPI-certified installer.

He prides himself on maintaining the high quality of workmanship necessary to ensure that Green Meadows surpasses industry standards.

In his free time, Rich is a firefighter for the Township of Monroe, NY, where he served as a past President and is currently the Treasurer. He also sits on the board of the New Jersey Landscape Contractors Association, where he is the treasurer as well.
