The intrepid G3eks team remembers the character of Carl Kolchak, the dogged ’70s-era newspaper reporter created by reporter/author Jeff Rice and portrayed by Darren (“A Christmas Story”) McGavin. Kolchak investigated and defeated a variety of supernatural creatures across a couple of TV movies, a 20-episode series (and an ill-fated reboot), novels, and even comic books. But what makes Kolchak memorable (although the character is today largely forgotten by mass fandom), inspiring later similar series such as “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” “Supernatural,” “The X-Files” and more? What are some of his best stories? Why didn’t the character make a bigger splash in comic books? We’re recording our thoughts on this property for fans and potential fans to ponder. (51:00)
