Networking - It's an ever so important term that many feel a needlessly uncomfortable amount of dread towards. To many, the words “daunting,” “awkwardness” and “intimidating” also come to mind. Alexis chunks the process of networking down into manageable and simple mini-steps. She offers 4 pieces of advice that are simple for anyone to implement. These tips will help you to jumpstart your relationship building. After all, there's a lot of truth behind the saying, "your network is your net worth."

  • [3:20] Changing the lens from which we view the term networking – frame it instead around starting a discussion around a common theme and remove any negative or adverse feelings/attitudes towards networking.

  • [5:00] Advice #1 – Finding groups or individuals who have similar interests.
  • [6:35] Advice #2 – Actively engage. Start following companies, connect with hiring managers, and have meaningful conversations with employees that share whatever that common ground and similarity you have/seek.
  • [8:20] Advice #3 – Refine or hone in and create a more targeted audience list and reach out to those with a common pain point to whom we can relate.
  • [10:19] Advice #4 – Be the change you want to see and become the voice of influence.
