William Sharer [R] is a member of the New Mexico State Senate, representing District 1. He assumed office in 2001.

Sharer was recently selected as the Senate minority leader effective January 21, 2025.

Sharer earned his A.A. from the New Mexico Military Institute in 1979 and his B.A. from New Mexico State University in 1981. His professional experience includes being the owner of Popcorn Patch from 1992 to 1993, the general manager of a Taco Bell from 1993 to 1995, and as the owner of the Credit Bureau of Farmington. Sharer served in the United States Army from 1982 to 1992.
