There are many people we associate with California history from Gaspar de Portol in the mid-1700s, Father Junipero Serra a number of years after that, or even Steinbeck in the more modern era...but one man landed in California 200 years earlier than Portol and may have setup the first British settlement of any kind on our beautiful coast and that man was Sir. Francis Drake. The real question that still leaves historians somewhat baffled though is the question of where, in 1570 did he land?
